The Military Listening Post

Military forces have historically used listening posts for early warning detection and protection against their opposition for as long as conflicts have existed. When nighttime comes, in a hostile military environment, a unit commander will deploy a manned team some distance beyond the company’s fortified perimeter. Their distinct purpose is to protect the main detachment from surprise attacks. The team would have special instructions to listen for sounds and watch for movements that may pose a threat of imminent harm to their military unit. When hostility is detected, the manned team returns to their base to alert the company. The team then uses a password to return to the safety of the unit’s fortified area.
